Dan had the opportunity to work on this project with his previous employer. The owner of the property wanted to see the effects of naturalization before he went “all-in”, therefore, they decided to convert part of the front yard into native landscape. Since the native species can spread out and sustain themselves really well, there was no need for mulch or rock which saved the owner lots of money without worrying about exposed bare soil. Once the native species were well established, they could even choke out the weeds. This smaller scale project could be a very good starting point if you plan to give naturalization a try.
