One of our clients are bird lovers and reside on an acreage. We met them at a natural bird shop’s opening in Spruce Grove. They shared that they had a vision of having low-maintenance landscapes while having access to all the bird feeders located in the backyard. From that vision, we drafted an initial design where we selected species loved by native birds as well as incorporated acidity tolerating species since there were lots of existing coniferous trees. We also selected those big stepping stones to give the entire landscape a natural look while providing easier access to trees with bird feeders. Pine and spruce needles serve as a natural mulch to chock the weeds out. Meanwhile, plants we installed would thrive, spread, sustain themselves, and eventually regenerate a native landscape.
